Thanks to Dan King for his persistence in organizing our "Whingding II" gathering at the Pomona/Pitzer versus Claremont/Mudd football game on Saturday, November 15, 2008. Members of football teams in the late 50's and early 60's had a very pleasant chance to update ourselves on our respective lives since our last meeting. Initially we had planned for a small tailgate party in the parking lot behind Bridges Hall prior to the game, and we all came equipped to party with one another. But we found a much more organized "tailgate" party in the Greek Theater where staff from Pomona/Pitzer put on a barbecue with all the trimmings. Our small group of eight enjoyed the college's hospitality along with the several hundred others.

In the future we probably should take advantage of the college's Tailgate/Greek Theater Social which I suspect is a regular occasion prior to this last game of the football season. If you haven't had a chance yet to see the changes in "The Wash," you may enjoy socializing in the new Greek Theater.

The football game was an interesting affair, with not only football being played on the field, but also a pie eating contest in the bleachers and some beautiful young ladies dancing during half-time. CMC won the game 18-6!

And...like the challenges of attending "Whingding I" brought on by the fires in San Diego several years ago, we had to weave our way home through the smoke of the fires burning in Los Angeles. The air quality during the game was pristine, as the fires burning in the eastern Los Angeles basin were mostly set during midmorning on Saturday and hadn't had a chance to seriously affect the air quality until well after the conclusion of the festivities.

We all had a great time at "Whingding II,"

Randy
